The Old commodore hotel
HOSPITALITY
Heritage Character, Modern Entertainment
The Challenge
The revitalisation of The Commodore Hotel presented a unique challenge: introduce a modern AV and entertainment experience while preserving the character of an established heritage venue.
Following an extensive refurbishment, the technology needed to complement the architecture rather than compete with it, with cabling and infrastructure carefully concealed throughout the existing structure.
The venue also needed flexibility. From everyday dining and live sport to DJs, events and late-night entertainment, the AV system had to support multiple experiences across the hotel while remaining simple for staff to operate.
The Solution
The AVIT Group delivered an integrated AV solution across the upper and lower levels, combining premium audio, IPTV distribution, large-format commercial displays, wireless microphones and centralised Q-SYS control.
Upstairs, eight Devialet Phantom Ultimate 108dB speakers provide premium distributed audio throughout the bar and dining areas. When the venue transitions into nightlife and entertainment, a dedicated NEXO system featuring P10 loudspeakers and an L15 subwoofer delivers the additional impact required for DJs and events.
Downstairs, four Devialet Phantom Ultimate 98dB speakers extend the audio experience through the sports bar and gaming areas.
Large-format Hisense commercial displays are positioned throughout the venue, including four 100-inch displays across both levels, supported by additional 65-inch, 55-inch and 50-inch screens. IPTV distribution allows live sport, events and other content to be managed across multiple zones.
Q-SYS DSP and wall-mounted touch panels provide simple control of audio, sources and individual venue zones, while RF Venue distribution paired with Sennheiser wireless microphones provides reliable roaming coverage throughout the entertainment spaces.
Behind the scenes, QSC amplification, Q-SYS processing and a Netgear AV network backbone bring the system together, with remote access allowing ongoing support and management.
The Outcome
The Commodore Hotel now has an AV system capable of adapting alongside the venue itself.
During the day, it supports dining, live sport and everyday hospitality. As the evening progresses, the same spaces can transition into a high-energy entertainment destination for DJs, events and nightlife.
Most importantly, the technology doesn’t overpower the character of the building. Modern AV has been carefully integrated within the refurbished heritage environment, preserving the venue’s identity while significantly enhancing the guest experience.
The result is a flexible, multi-zone hospitality destination that respects its history while being built for what comes next.
